As a former coach, I know how much parents pour into their kids' sports.
The early mornings.
The weekends on the road.
The hotel stays.
Tournament fees.
Private lessons.
Equipment.
Gas.
Meals.
And honestly? Some of my favorite memories came from sports. I'm not here to tell anyone they shouldn't invest in their child's athletic journey.
But I do want to throw out a different play.
What if one year of travel ball could create opportunities for the next 20 years?
Think about it.
Depending on the sport, it's not uncommon for families to spend thousands, sometimes well into the five figures in a single year at tournaments, showcases, team dues, personal coaches and so forth.
Now imagine this...
Instead of paying for one season of travel ball, what if you used that money toward purchasing a rental property?
Now before anyone gets fired up, I'm not saying this is the right move for every family.
I'm simply asking...
Have you ever thought about it?
A rental property has the potential to do a few pretty cool things while your child is growing up.
It may generate rental income.
It may build equity over time.
It gives your family another asset that could create options in the future.
Fast forward 6 or 8 years.
Your child is now 18.
Imagine having choices instead of hoping everything works out.
Maybe you decide to sell the property and help pay for college.
Maybe you keep it as a rental and use the income to offset expenses.
Maybe you leverage the equity for another investment.
Or maybe one day you gift the property to your child, giving them a head start that most young adults never receive.
That's what I love about real estate.
It creates options.
As a coach, I've always believed in creating opportunities rather than waiting for them.
The same mindset applies here.
Sports teach incredible life lessons like discipline, teamwork, resilience, and confidence. Those lessons are priceless.
But what if your investment in your child's future included more than just athletic experiences?
What if it also included building an asset that could continue working for your family long after the final whistle?
It's not about choosing one over the other.
It's about asking yourself if there's another way to leverage today's decisions into tomorrow's opportunities.
Sometimes the best game plans aren't about spending more.
They're about thinking a few plays ahead.
If you've ever wondered what it would look like to use real estate as part of your family's long-term game plan, I'd love to sit down and brainstorm with you. Just a conversation about creating opportunities that fit your family's goals.
Because at the end of the day, that's what coaching has always been about for me helping people create opportunities they may not have seen before.
